Great Unit!

1 out of 5 stars Garbage   February 17, 2010
Bruno Tattaglia
I bought this unit only six months ago. Rarely used the VHS player. Just last night the SLP speed just went bonkers. Won't play back properly. I cleaned the recording heads. Still on the blink. I don't just get streaks, I get a jarring white glare. Ironically, everything works fine on the SP mode. So my only guess is something went out of alignment with the SLP mode.

I bought this unit from an Amazon merchant called GoHastings. They advertised the product as new and the price was right. But when I got my order I found out it was a refurbished unit. I should have sent it back but the machine was working at the time. So, I guess, you live and learn.

2 out of 5 stars maybe not a good idea after all.   January 12, 2010

i bought this refurbished machine basically because i already have one of the same, and it worked fine. the problem was that the original remote control i got with my dvd/vcr had broken the first month i had it. so i decided to buy one exactly like the one i had, then when when it stopped working (as these things always do eventually) i could just switch it out and still have a remote for both. well all went great until last week. my old dvd/vcr started to crap out, so i swapped machines (patting myself on the back the whole way.) lo and behold, the new machine won't read any discs. the vcr works fine on both machines, but now i can't watch any dvds on either of them. (thank god for my ps2.) i didn't contact the seller because it has been quite awhile since i bought it from them. it's pretty much my fault anyways, since i didn't hook it up right away and test it out. the seller did send it well: fast and well packed. it just doesn't work right.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price...   December 28, 2009

Had this unit for quite a while (3+ years). It has worked just fine and came in handy for playing our Disney movies that are mostly VHS. It just recently went out on us - the DVD player is making a clicking noise and does not spin the DVD's properly. For the price, you can't beat it. If you want all of the bells and whistles you will want to purchase a better quality unit which means you will spend more. But for the occasional movie watching, works perfectly. We will be purchasing another one to replace ours that broke.

1 out of 5 stars WORST P.O.S. I EVER OWNED   December 26, 2009
Brian P. Vavrek (Planet Earth, Milky Way Galaxy)
From Day One, this machine has caused nothing but problems. The VCR play-back is minimal at best. I have had trouble playing brand-new, factory sealed DVD's. Skipping, stopping, and just plain shutting down during play. As God as my witnes, and for as long as I live, I will never purchase a Memorex product, nor wish them on my worst enemy, as I believe the Geneva Convention prevents cruel and unusaul punishment.
