The perfect tool for anyone wanting a top-flight VCR that can not only perform myriad editing feats but interface with your computer, JVC's high-resolution S-VHS HR-S9911U features insert editing and audio dubbing so you can compile seamless highlight tapes from your home-video footage to send to your friends and family--and you can even add a musical soundtrack. It also features conveniences like SVHS ET (Expansion Technology, which lets you record broad-bandwidth Super VHS signals on affordable standard-VHS tapes) and a child lock, which helps you keep young viewers from watching or taping specific channels and time slots. The HR-S9911U's hi-fi, 4-head design combines great sound, high quality, and great effects, including variable slow motion, frame advance, and variable-speed search. It's equipped with DigiPure technology and 4 MB of frame memory for special-effects playback, which will either speed or slow playback with no visual distortion. This could be especially convenient when compiling a video using two decks.
The unit's JLIP (Joint Level Interface Protocol) terminal lets you connect the VCR to a personal computer or similar device. By connecting through the JLIP terminals, you can control the VCR (during editing and certain other operations) from the connected personal computer or similar device.
When you record a TV program, the VCR automatically stores in its memory the recording start time, date, channel information, etc. so you can quickly find programs later using navigation playback. When you select a program to watch, the deck will automatically search for the beginning of that program. The feature is user-selectable, and you can edit all stored information for consistency--ideal for making your VHS home videos easier to navigate, even if they're merely highlight tapes of your Hi8 or MiniDV masters.
The deck's insert editing feature uses a flying erase head to ensure seamless edits and smooth, invisible transitions from one scene to the next. You can even perform audio dubbing--adding a soundtrack after you've edited your video together.
The recorder comes with gold-plated front audio/video jacks enabling easy access for connecting camcorders, video games, or an extra VCR. One-year, 8-event express programming and a full-function remote simplify scheduling and operation.
Other features include instant review (in which The VCR turns on, rewinds to the index code for the beginning of the last timer-recorded program, then commences playback), Active Video Calibration (which automatically judges head condition and tape quality to maximize the potential of the tape being used) and VCR Plus+ with cable-box control (which lets you program on the fly by entering the PlusCode numbers found in most TV listings--and the supplied "cable eye" controller will automatically switch channels on your cable box for you).
A supplied JVC Cable Eye controller automatically switches channels on your cable box or satellite receiver for ready taping or viewing from the HR-S9911U. Picture Control lets you change the VCR's four picture-technology settings: "Auto/Normal" enables the Active Video Calibration System; "Soft" reduces image coarseness when viewing overplayed tapes; "Edit" minimizes degradation during editing (recording and playback); and "Sharp" gives you clearer, sharper-edged pictures.
When used in concert with the HR-S9911U, other JVC A/V Compu Link components will be able to "power up" the deck and switch to the correct input anytime you play a DVD, videotape, CD, cassette, or even when you simply want to watch television. When you're done, Compu Link makes it possible for the whole system to be powered down with a single button.
