I had the 4022 which is exactly the same vcr, except plays in mono sound instead of stereo sound. It has the same operational manual, is the same vcr, works the same way, has the same functions, because i still have the manual and it says so. And i had it for 8 years, bought it 2002 and it's 2010.
This is a review for the panasonic PV-V4022 4-Head Mono VCR. I know because i've owned this machine for 8 years (this is 2010, and most posted comments here are 2002). I put it to very HEAVY USE taping, dubbing, operating the tv from this vcr, and it performed flawlessly - it's a workhorse.
Great pictures on playback and recording. Very good sound. No errors, never ate a tape!
And it still works decently now. For example, it does record in 3 speeds (which many only record in two) and the slp SLOW speed is excellent. I have taped up to 15 or 16 one hour episodes on one 2 hr vcr blank tape, using the slow speed and editing out the commercials - amazing! And to this day, 8 years later, they all play perfectly. However, You can also connect to a 2nd vcr for easy tape dubbing.
This vcr is very easy to use, setup and maintain. The mono sound is excellent because it's a hi-fi mono, on all tapes and rentals, unless the vcr tape is very old and somewhat degraded, then the sound can be off a bit. For that you would be better off with a 19 micronized heads vcr.
But all in all this is an outstanding vcr and lightweight too. There is no digital tuner in it. So I simply connect it to my digital converting box which is connected to my tv - simple, or you can connect it to your cable box. This is one million percent better than the vcr's in a dvd/vcr combo unit. It doesn't only work from remote like some vcr's do. You have buttons on the panel that can do most of the functions with also. The machine runs very quiet unlike many that are noisy and irritating.

The company was very accomodating, and made the exchange easy, uncomplicated and quick. We would be more than happy to deal with them again. Going through Amazon to make the purchase was quick, simple and worked our very well.
We would and have recommended purchasing items that are almost impossible to find such as a VCR through you.

I am very satisfied with the Panasonic PV-4522 Hi-Fi VCR. It was certainly a good deal for the money! I am still able to record television programming ( with a digital converter box attached )and replay my old VHS collection. The picture quality is very good and the sound quality is excellent. I hope this VCR keeps working for a long time. This VCR will make a good replacement unit if that's what you're looking for.

I got the panasonic because it was practically the only one available any more. I wanted a Sony, but they apparently don't have them any more. The com[any who sent it to me was wonderful as far as getting it to me fast. I wondered about the high postage, but the fast service made it ok.
