Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Now you can get all the advances that are part of Panasonic's latest line of Hi-Fi stereo VCRs at an unbelievably low price. The PV-9450 has all the features you need to maximize your home theater system. This 4-headed wonder comes with features like a Program Index Search function, which creates an onscreen listing of the recordings on a VHS tape. Select the desired program and the PV-9450 automatically cues up to the start of that segment. It's like being able to rewind and fast forward live television!

Amazon.com Review
The Panasonic PV-9450 is not cluttered with features that you'll probably never use anyway, but it does offer those that are important: 4-head video quality, stereo hi-fi sound, and on-screen programming. The unit also includes Panasonic's Multi-Brand Universal Light Tower Remote, which works with most TVs and cable boxes.

The PV-9450 impressed us with its simplicity; we took it out of the box, connected an antenna and TV, and plugged it in. We then followed the initial on-screen setup instructions and, by itself, the unit found the active broadcast channels and even set its clock. We played a prerecorded tape and found the picture to be crisp and sharp. The PV-9450's audio was rich and full, characteristic of hi-fi stereo.

Another interesting feature of the PV-9450 is a time stamp, which, at the beginning of a videotape, displays the time and date of your recording and the channel from which it was recorded. A tape-position display shows how close you are to the beginning or end of a tape.

The remote control, unlike the VCR, is a bit bulky, and its many buttons get in the way of the few you'll use most of the time. Of course, it is a universal remote, and, as such, must sacrifice some design elegance.

If the most important features to you are 4-head picture quality and hi-fi stereo sound, then Panasonic PV-9450 is a sensible choice.

Pros:

  • Universal remote works with most TVs and cable boxes
  • 4 heads for a clear picture
  • Hi-fi stereo for great sound

Cons:

  • Limited feature set

5 out of 5 stars Easy To Use   February 11, 2003

An excellent VCR, only wish they still sold it. So easy to program, good picture quality and a great price. I'm looking to buy another VCR and will stick with Panasonic. I particularly like the date/time stamp when you record a program. I have owned many VCR's going way back to the old Betamax days(still own it too) including Sears, JVC, Symphonic, Daytron, Phillips but this by far is the easiest to use.

5 out of 5 stars The best VCR I've ever owned.   February 8, 2000

I love this VCR. My favorite feature is that the clock sets itself by getting the time from the cable. That is great because I never have a blinking "12:00" anymore. Whenever the power goes out and comes back on, the clock instantly sets itself. Programming is the easist feature of them all. I can program up to 8 different blocks of time and it only takes about 30 seconds to program for one recording. Actually installing it to my TV and attatching the cable took about a minute. I didn't refer to the directions at all the entire time. And once it was all plugged in, it did all this stuff instantly and was ready to go. GET THIS VCR.

We have a 9450 and have enjoyed it so far. However it is barely out of warranty and just pooped out.

I purchased two Panasonics this Xmas. A bargain two head ($75) and a 9451 Model (to get Stereo & the VCR+) Both worked 100% out of the box. Great picture and sound. Last of the quality VCRs and cheap! Made in Japan says it all--quality.

5 out of 5 stars A Really Decent VCR at An Affordable Price!   January 21, 2000

I have recently purchased and used the "Panasonic PV-9450 4-Head Hi-Fi" VCR. I read the VCR's manual to see a list of features, available for this device. After reading the manual and seeing the features, I was impressed. The feature I favor the most is the timed recording (the ability to set a time range and date for programs to be automatically recorded) feature. I'm impressed with this feature for the reason that I miss some episodes of my favorite TV shows and movies that come on while I'm at work, so I can really use this to record and playback anything on TV that I miss. Another aspect of the VCR I like is the low price when purchased at Amazon.com (although, that can change anytime). It is very inexpensive for a VCR. In fact, it's the least expensive VCR I have ever seen advertised. The manual is pretty easy to read and understand, so anybody can learn how to use this VCR in no time.
